iPhone 3.0 install, codename: Groundhog Day

Well, here we are.
Last July when version 2.0 of the iPhone OS was released, I was up early banging the servers at 9am. That didn’t work out so well. This year, I decided I’d wait until later on in the day to see if the chaos would be different from the last time. It’s 4:30pm EST now, but it looks like it’s the exact same story as last year.
I’m stuck with an inoperative phone, with the error message:

Time to wait once again. A quick look around the interwebs confirms that I’m not alone, either.
Advice to those looking to upgrade: wait a day or two.

Fast forward to 10:30pm EST. Update: Connected to activation server and updated iPhone successfully
