Slight RadioPopper-Ezybox Mount Modification
Last week I received my two non-velcro mounts from Kevin King & the gang out at RadioPopper HQ, and I must say that they’re sooo much easier to use than the old velcro method. I was skeptical at first that the plastic would be tough enough to hold everything firmly, but it does a really nice job. It feels durable and doesn’t seem like it’s going to crack or break under stress in any way (even with the strobes at 90° angles, upside down, etc.) My 580EXII’s fit like a glove, and the RadioPopper units are held very firmly in place in the new mounts. They’re not going anywhere, and were just as reliable when fired as when I had them velcroed on. Can’t thank those guys enough for deciding to include a nice 3/8" threaded brass screw-mount in the bottom of the mount/foot as well. This makes tossing a speedlite + RadioPopper Px unit on a umbrella swivel super quick and easy.
I did, however, have to get out my hacksaw and perform some minor amputation on the bottom tongs of the holder when I tried to mount everything to my 2′x2′ Ezybox.
At first, I thought it was a miracle – the bottom half of the RadioPopper mount was a perfect fit on the speedlite adaper on the Ezybox. But then after putting the two pieces of the radiopopper mount together, the adjustable part (the part that actually holds the PX unit) had some plastic that was getting hung up on a screw. It’s important to note that I have the older model Ezybox speedlight adapter…it’s all metal and not the new "mkII" model, which looks to be a different design made of delrin plastic. It’s also important to note that I only have experience with the Canon RadioPopper mounts – and if you’re using the original 580EX or a 430EX, you may not have to do this to get your RadioPopper mount to fit on the Ezybox adapter because the height of the mount will be high enough to be out of the way. That being said, by doing this to your mount, you’ll never be able to use a 580 or 430 again with it, since you’re effectively cutting off the extension that puts the Px unit at the correct height for those two speedlites. I’ve got three 580EXII’s, and I don’t plan on going back anytime, so I figured I’d be ok.
Anywho, here are some images from the brief ordeal – if anybody has questions, give me a holler…

Every time I come to http://www.pixelform.com there is another fascinating article up to read. One of my friends was talking to me about this topic a few weeks ago. I think I’ll e-mail my friend the link here and see what they say.
