The cycles of nature always have, and always will continue to astonish me. Every seasonal change serves as a constant reminder of how incredibly fragile most ecosystems are.

I’ve returned to the Loyalsock river each May for the past nine years, and there’s still something special about that old valley for me. Spooky, yet strangely familiar.

Ah, the wonders of spring. I feel like a bear that’s been asleep all winter and has awoken to find a freeway outside his door. Haven’t been able to pull myself together and make a constructive post lately because there simply has not been enough time. Spring has finally sprung, and everything has been screaming by at high rpm’s since mid-March.
Flowers and trees are now spewing forth a smorgasbord of blossoms and associated pollen, animals and insects of all shapes and sizes are crawling and flying out of the woodwork, ye olde grass gives me the usual...
What an incredible experience. This was my first AMA race not only as a spectator, but as a photographer. Overwhelming and simply fantastic at the same time. Many thanks to Sam, Tryg, Chuck, Dane and the entire TWC/KneeDraggers pit crew. Looking forward to doing it again soon.

Best snow of the year. I only wish I had more time to get to the places I wanted to get shots of.

Happenstance? Coincidence? Fluke? Maybe a little. It was mostly cloudy all afternoon and totally clouded over when we left to go to my parents house for dinner. Even though it looked drab and dreary outside, I thought to myself before we left "I better bring along the camera, just in case… there might be a gap in the clouds."

Some snow (and mostly ice) finally ended up gracing the area last Wednesday. I was lucky enough to be able to come into work a little late, and spent the morning cruising some familiar spots.

I’ve been waiting patiently this year for some nice snowy landscapes and Saturday was supposed to be a decent day for snow.
The weatherfolk kept forecasting a dusting to a few inches – but it never materialized.
Nevertheless, Cousin Chris and I managed to trudge around Chester County and the Brandywine area scouting for good spots to return to once mother nature does decide to drop some nice powdery whiteness on us.

Thanks to the generosity of Ted (Leda’s owner) and a co-worker, I was recently introduced to the sport of falconry – and Leda. She is a Harris’ Hawk, which are the only members of the genus Parabuteo and are well known for their "pack-hunting" behavior. I’ve only been out in the field a few times so far with her and Ted, and I can tell you that it is absolutely insane how fast this bird can move. Any small animals (especially cottontails) that cross her path don’t stand a chance. Expect to see many more shots of her (and possibly...
The Snow Geese (Chen caerulescens atlantica) have returned to Delaware from the Arctic in mind-blowing numbers. Talk about being one in a million… And speaking of a million snow geese, here’s a news article about them. There are now too many snow geese for their own good.
